An exciting start for Jaxon: Preschool!

by Chris Winfield-Blum  - July 25, 2024

Our lives have been a whirlwind lately. Two weeks ago we met, Ethan Leslie, and today marked another significant milestone for our family as we sent Jaxon off to preschool for the first day.

Jaxon has been eagerly anticipating this new adventure, filled with excitement about making new friends. However, he’s also expressed a strong opinion that Ericka and I should come to preschool as well. This morning, as we prepared him for his first day, a mix of emotions filled the air. While he was undoubtedly looking forward to school, there was also a clear reluctance to be apart from us.

We managed to navigate the morning routine with a combination of enthusiasm and gentle persuasion. Upon arriving at preschool, Jaxon was thrilled to reunite with a new friend he'd met the day before at the shops, but his eyes kept darting back to Ericka, Ethan, and I.

Our goodbye was a bittersweet moment for all of us. We shared a “family love love” and extra cuddles before he settled in with some play-doh. As we turned to leave, we were shot one of Jaxon's familiar “brows”, a trait he inherited from me, before he returned to his play.

Ericka and I felt an unusual sense of quiet that day. We're so accustomed to having Jaxon with us that his absence created an unexpected stillness.

When we picked up Jaxon from school at 3:15, we found our little boy happily buried in the sandpit. He'd clearly had a wonderful day making new friends and was eager to return the next day.

We're both so very proud of the little man he's becoming.
